Cram 'em in Wednesday

Good afternoon,

If you're quick, you've still got time to head off to the protest march about the Ministry wanting to close Christchurch schools.

Christchurch Has Had Enough

I'm staying at school to sort out the slides for tomorrow's mass.

But I digress.

This morning we squeezed 'em in for reading...

(well, except at the board as I had a bit of bovver trying to get the second pen up and running...)

...and even more so for Art this afternoon!

And a good time was had by all!

One thing, those book orders I handed out this afternoon, well, ummm...they're due back this Friday! Sorry in the delay in getting them out...but thanks to Kahu for sorting them out this morning for me!

Mrs Johnson will be in the room tomorrow (if you're planning to pop along to help with the painting, we're kicking that off shortly after 1:30), but I'll be floating around...lest anyone asks...

Tuesday's P.E.

Good evening,

And a lovely evening it is too. 'Twas very pleasant to pop outside for some bat 'n ball skills.

(By way of Room 10 - Mrs O'Neil was very impressed with Room 2's Roman knowledge!)

By the way, I'll be out of the on Thursday starting some report stuff, so Mrs Johnson will be in in my stead. (And Mrs O'Neil on Monday of next week as I'll be out doing some ICT stuff.)

CU in the morning,

Shield Day Monday

Good afternoon,

And quite a nice one it is too.

I can't believe it's already Week 3!

Well, today was all about getting the children's designs stencilled onto their shields.

They do look pretty cool! Thanks Ani and Bronwyn for coming in to help - that which I thought they'd be able to do themselves...well, some couldn't!

Note to self, if ever I'm mad enough to do this again, stick with simple designs. The Kiwi, Galoop, the Pegasus' and the scorpions have come out fine...as has the crayfish.

Next step is to block paint inside the lines, and then draw in a few details in Vivid - most especially the unicorns and dogs! Any help will be most gratefully received!

CU tomorrow,

Mr Grant

The Generosity of a Wife!

Good evening,

Just inside after Tracy and I finished painting the shields.

I had planned to do it at school, but I was laid down with a migraine after church. Thankfully, Tracy came to the rescue. She went off to school to pick the shields from the Sleemans (thanks for that guys), then came back and started an afternoon's work of sanding and undercoating while leaving me for the drugs to kick in before I could join her.

Thanks hon!

Puppy Friday

Good evening,

Today, whilst we had some help with the stencils for our shields...

...Room 2 read a new poem.

My Puppy Punched Me In The Eye
By Kenn Nesbitt
My puppy punched me in the eye.
My rabbit whacked my ear.
My ferret gave a frightful cry
and roundhouse kicked my rear.

My lizard flipped me upside down.
My kitten kicked my head.
My hamster slammed me to the ground
and left me nearly dead.

So my advice? Avoid regrets;
no matter what you do,
don't ever let your family pets
take lessons in kung fu.

Then off we went outside for a run...well, they did. I kinda ambled...trundled...wobbled?!

After a discussion comparing and contrasting New Zealand and Ancient Greek democracy...

...we carried on with the rest of the day.

Oh, and this just in...

Christchurch Has Had Enough

...from NZEI, the Primary Teacher's Union.

For your information. (Looks like you'll have to download it to access the hyper-links)

Have a great weekend - I'm planning to paint lots and lots of shields on Sunday afternoon at school. If anyone wants to join me, please let me know.

Democracy Thursday

Good evening,

Just back from buying more calico for the rest of the Chitons, the first of which some of the children wore this afternoon as we had the first taste of Ancient Greek democracy...a vote for class leader between two intrepid volunteers.

First they had to state their case...

"I'll give you all icecream!"

"I'll do whatever you want!"

...which the Polis (the community of a Greek city state) carefully considered...

...and voted upon.

Democracy was the winner on the day!

And once again in the morning Room 2 wrote. It was great seeing Kakariki group helping out Whero group so enthusiastically while Kahurangi beavered away.

Pom Pom Wednesday

Good afternoon,

This afternoon, after a quick discussion about the Fruits of the Holy Spirit...

The Fruits of the Holy Spirit

...we popped next door to keep squireling away with our pom poms.

Talk about a full house!

Monday Tuesday

Good afternoon and welcome to Week 2.

(I got a little confused in my maths planning yesterday, so Room 2 mathematicians were on Monday's group rotation...though Tuesday's warm up activity...)

Anyway, this morning Whero reading group started to share their text for today with us...

...but they ran out of time!

After lunch we popped outside for some more Hitting and Striking.

Dunno who that ring in was...

Right, Fred's been on at me (:-) to ask you if you have any sheets to make these with...

It's called a chiton (pronounced "kiton"). We're after 26 of them. Just a small order...

Anyway, if anyone has any spare single coloured material (like sheets or table cloths (?) - no stripes please), please bring it along to school so I can ruin Fred's spare time...I mean so's Frederika can very graciously zip 'em up for us. Well, them. I'm not actually getting one made. Though, on second thoughts...

Room 2 Newsletter for Term 4, Week 2

Good afternoon,

Here is the Room 2 Newsletter for Term 4, Week 2. Please note the not so subtle hint for help next week (Week 3) to paint the shields!

Thanks again Shane for making them, and thanks Kim for "handl'ing" them!

Now to organise making the stencils for the shield designs...

Shield Day Friday

Good afternoon,

Yay! They've arrived! Shane has dropped off 30 MDF 600mm diameter precisely cut circles that will form the back bone, so to speak, of our Room 2 shield phalanx.

So, while the children checked out the topic books...

...I culled down yesterday's shield design into a more manageable number...

...which the children then drew and justified...

...subsequent from a discussion about the similarities and differences of Greek and Roman fighting.

Earlier still we went out for fitness - relays.

I kind of got distracted by something, lost count of who went when, so they just kept on going! It was great to hear them puffing when they got back into the room to get changed - it meant they'd actually done some exercise!

Right, to get these shields upholstered...

Have a great long weekend,

Mr Grant
